Why is aluminium oxide preferred to silicon carbide in grinding steel?

Al2O3 is tougher than SiC. Therefore it is preferred to grind material having high tensile strength like steel. Moreover, Al2O3 shows higher chemical inertness than SiC towards steel leading to much improved wear resistance during grinding.
